Q & A with the organiser – Sarah Dalton

How can readers enter the YA Spring Fling giveaway?

Head over to my website Sarahdaltonbooks.com and find the page for the YA Spring Fling (handy hint, it’s HERE). Once you’re there you can browse through the books on offer, or check out more information about the participating authors.

You should see plenty of links prompting you to enter the giveaway. Simply fill out the Google document telling us which books you’d like to win, the format you prefer, and whether you would also like to win paperbacks and swag. It’s that simple. Pick the books you want and sign off.

How will I know I’ve won?

There are so many books on offer that I’d be surprised if you didn’t win something! So you will be hearing from us. J

After April 3rd, I will collate all the entries and pass them on to the participating authors. They will then choose the winners at random and Email the winners to let them know the good news.

Will my Email or personal details be used outside the giveaway?

Absolutely not. We’re all against spam and promise not to use your Email for anything other than contacting you as a winner. If you joined up to the YA Spring Fling mailing list you will receive one Email telling you the giveaway is open, and another warning you it is about to close. That’s it!

Is the giveaway open internationally?

Yes! But there are some paperbacks on offer that are region specific. Not all of our authors are sending paperbacks and swag internationally, purely because it costs us so much money and we ain’t made of it. 😉

We will ask for your country of residence in the Google document. That’s so we can work out the winners for region specific paperbacks more easily. Everything else is open internationally.

I have a question, who can I contact?

Me! Send me a message on Facebook. My Email might be clogged by answering author queries, so Facebook might be the easiest method.

Who can I tell about the giveaway? And what can I do to help spread the word?

You can tell everyone and anyone who might like YA books. If you’d like to spread the word it would be awesome if you could follow or like some of the authors and share their posts about the giveaway. You can find a full list of the participating authors and their social media links here.

Review and Giveaway: Andromeda’s Fall (Shadowcat Nation #1) by Abigail Owen

Book Description:

Andromeda Reynolds is being hunted. After witnessing her mother’s violent death at the hands of a pack of wolf shifters, Andie has devoted her life to protecting her community of cougar shifters from a similar fate. But now, a greater threat lies within her own dare, and she must run. If she stays, Kyle Carstairs will force their mating, seeking the added political power their union would provide.

Andie would rather chew off her own foot than end up with Kyle. Though, knowing him, she won’t live long either way. Andie’s only hope of survival is to mate Jaxon Keller, the Alpha of the Keller Dare with which she is seeking asylum. But before she can get to him, Andie must first go through A.J., one of the Alpha’s Protectors.

What Andie doesn’t realize is that A.J. has secrets of his own. All Andie knows is that the incredibly frustrating shifter insists on challenging her story, her skills, her trust… and her heart.

Available at  The Wild Rose Press  Amazon   BN   Apple   Kobo

Andromeda Reynolds (aka Andie) is on the run from the alpha’s son of her old Dare, Kyle Carstairs. If she stayed, Kyle for sure would try again to mate her by force.  He failed this time and even though she is a skilled fighter she can’t take the chance he wins the next time. Kyle winning actually might mean her death.   She had to leave and try and seek asylum with the Keller Dare.  Due to her high status the only way the Carstairs have no right to her is if she marries the Keller Alpha, Jaxon Keller.

Convincing the Keller alpha is a different story.  She can’t even get to him. She has to convince AJ, one of the Keller alpha protectors that she is worthy of asylum. He challenges her to the core. Andie senses he is keeping secrets but she is determined to show him she is smart and has the skills to stay.

This is my first time reading Abigail Owen. Owen made me love her characters. Andie is not only a bad ass fighter, she is incredibly smart and witty too. She was a force to be reckon with and was my favorite. I actually think my favorite part was AJ making her run and thinking she would not last long at all.   Hrs and hrs and many miles later she was still going.  What made it funny was she showed him up and did not even have to say a word. Even funnier he hates to run. AJ was every bit an alpha as the story portrayed him to be with just enough mushiness.  The sparks between them were flying but Andie could not do anything about it she had to stick to her plan and marry the Keller alpha.  It was getting harder and harder to do because AJ was making it very difficult.

I definitely recommend this book and cannot wait for the next.   I may even pick up and try one of her other series.

Book Review: Viper Game (GhostWalkers book 11) by Christine Feehan

Book Description:

Hailed as “the queen of paranormal romance” by J.R. Ward, #1 New York Times bestselling author “Christine Feehan continues to amaze readers” (The Eternal Night) with her phenomenal novels. Now, from the author of the Dark Carpathian series, comes the newest in Christine Feehan’s explosive GhostWalker series…

GhostWalker Wyatt Fontenot knows the price he paid for the secret military experiments that gave him his special catlike abilities. After all, he left his bayou home a healer and came back a killer. While Wyatt and his GhostWalker brother Gator may have known exactly the sort of game they were getting into, Wyatt never anticipated where it would lead—or to whom.

The swamps hold many mysteries, but few are as sinuously seductive as Le Poivre de Cayenne. The woman the locals call Pepper is every bit as enigmatic as the three little girls she’s desperately trying to protect. From what, Wyatt is soon to discover. Right now Pepper needs a man like Wyatt. Passionately. But her secrets are about to take them both deeper into the bayou than either imagined—where desire is the deadliest poison of all.

Book Review:

Wyatt Fontenot is part of a secret military experiment, he had been altered with catlike abilities. He came home to his Nonny to find she had been bullied by a group of men on the other side of the bayou. He knew the place and who was running it, but what did they have to do with his Nonny and who on earth would bully a little old woman.  Something was not adding up. Wyatt was on a mission to find out and to scare the men who pushed her down. What he did not expect was finding Pepper and what came with her.

Pepper also altered but not by choice was running for her life and the life of the child she was trying to save.   In the process they got hurt, she needed help.  She had to get to the house across the Bayou.  The old woman who lived there would leave blankets and food on her porch at night.   The old woman also known as Nonny had no idea what was out there, but she left the items anyway. Pepper knew she would help but the help she ended up getting was not what she expected and from whom.

A fight for truth, for life and most of all freedom.  What is a life if you can’t live it freely? Feehan portrayed exactly that in this book.   Pepper needed help it was not just for her but for three little girls who also was given no choice.   What they did to these girls and are still doing because Pepper could only run with one is unimaginable.  Pepper who was already strong is now stronger with Wyatt and his crew by her side.  They will stop at nothing to get those girls out, even if it means their own lives.

The passion between Wyatt and Pepper was intense to say the least.  This is where the story fell a little. The passion was too intense for this story and Wyatt’s domineering and jealous personality added no value.   The story in itself pulled you in, but these parts pulled you out.

Viper Game was a not a favorite however It is a series that I recommend

Laurie Olerich

“Do it,” he whispered, eyes snapping open, mouth curled on one side. “Go on. Pull the trigger.”

His voice sent shivers racing across her skin, her heart pounding in her chest. Her hand shook. The muzzle tapped his skin once, twice, and a third time.

Yes. Do it. Just squeeze the trigger, and be done with it. Give him the justice he deserves. He used her. He betrayed her. He was a demon. Her plan was solid; her entrance professional. She was a killer. She was a professional. She made one mistake.

She looked into his eyes.

His eyes gleamed with that eerie golden light, drawing her in, stripping her bare. He breathed easily even as her heart galloped in her chest and sweat ran from her palms. In one swift motion, he caught her gun hand. With eyes never leaving her face, he got to his feet. Grinding her knuckles together, he pushed the gun downward until her arm was wrenched behind her back. Nudging her thigh with his, he walked her backwards until he crowded her against the wall. The steel of the pistol bit deep into the small of her back, but she’d rip her arm off before crying out. He had taken too much already.

He was so close she felt the heat of his skin, the hum of his power, and the bulge of his erection. He smiled at the exact moment she realized he was hard for her. The voice in her head screamed in terror even as liquid pooled between her legs.

“You should’ve pulled the trigger,” he murmured as his mouth caught hers.

Book Review: Bitten by a Hellcat by Felicity Heaton

Book Description

Bitten by a Hellcat (Eternal Mates Romance Series Book 6)
The sole remaining member of the most famous shifter hunter family in history, Owen Nightingale is a mercenary and a man with a secret held in his closely guarded heart, but when a beautiful rare shifter catches his eye and offers him a job, he has the feeling he’ll be the one paying for helping her—with his heart.

Cait is in a spot of trouble with a capital T. A male hellcat has set his sights on claiming her and she’s one kitty who doesn’t want a collar. When she meets a dark, alluring and mysterious hunter, she sees a chance to rid herself of the male, but the price Owen sets and the fierce passion that burns white-hot between them lures her dangerously under his seductive spell.

Can Owen discover the true intent of the male hellcat and stop Cait from falling into his hands? And can Cait retain control as the heat of desire burns between her and Owen, or will a reckless moment seal both of their fates forever?

Book Review

Owen Nightingale is a mercenary and the last remaining member of the famous shifter hunter family. Maybe that’s why everyone is avoiding him while he is just trying to unwind over a drink. They don’t know his next job, it could be one of them.   Looking around he spots the most beautiful shifter he has ever seen who happens to be staring him down, challenging him.  Owen who goes up against the best of them is up for the challenge however the instant attraction causes his heart to take a leap. It ends up she needs his help and is offering him a job.

Cait is running from a male hellcat who is trying to claim her.  In her world, female cats get claimed by a collar not by their choice.  They become their slaves so to speak, their breeding machines.   She is determined to not let this happen to her.  She spots a dark mysterious hunter across the bar and sees her chance for help.   What she did not except was the instant passion that ignites.

Owen will do what he needs too to protect her and find out what this male hellcat truly wants with Cait.    The passion between them is ready to explode they can’t help the draw to each other. In a heated passion the unthinkable happens, their fate has been sealed but with a large price.

This is my first Felicity Heaton book.  Coming in at book 6 had me worried a little but it did not seem to be a problem at all. This can be read as a standalone.   I had fun reading this book and now knowing that some characters did guest appearances I definitely plan on going back to read from book one.  I am not sure if Heaton’s style is to send strong messages but this one packed a punch for woman’s equal right to choose and to be treated equal, but not too much that it over powered the story. In fact Cait herself was not a damsel in distress she was a cat who definitely could take care of herself. I enjoyed the plot the twist and turns and most of all the romance and passion in this story. I look forward to going back and starting from the beginning, I have added a new author to my reading list.

Book Review: Burned by Karen Moning

Book Description:

It’s easy to walk away from lies. Power is another thing.

MacKayla Lane would do anything to save the home she loves. A gifted sidhe-seer, she’s already fought and defeated the deadly Sinsar Dubh—an ancient book of terrible evil—yet its hold on her has never been stronger.

When the wall that protected humans from the seductive, insatiable Fae was destroyed on Halloween, long-imprisoned immortals ravaged the planet. Now Dublin is a war zone with factions battling for control. As the city heats up and the ice left by the Hoar Frost King melts, tempers flare, passions run red-hot, and dangerous lines get crossed.

Seelie and Unseelie vie for power against nine ancient immortals who have governed Dublin for millennia; a rival band of sidhe-seers invades the city, determined to claim it for their own; Mac’s former protégé and best friend, Dani “Mega” O’Malley, is now her fierce enemy; and even more urgent, Highland druid Christian MacKeltar has been captured by the Crimson Hag and is being driven deeper into Unseelie madness with each passing day. The only one Mac can depend on is the powerful, dangerous immortal Jericho Barrons, but even their fiery bond is tested by betrayal.

It’s a world where staying alive is a constant struggle, the line between good and evil gets blurred, and every alliance comes at a price. In an epic battle against dark forces, Mac must decide who she can trust, and what her survival is ultimately worth.

Book Review:

I’ve been a long time reader of Karen Moning, all the way back to her highlander books. In my opinion, Iced was her finest work to date and one of my favorite books. I felt a great anticipation for Burned, which grew steadily in the two year wait. After all, if she could write Iced in a year, Burned had to be the end all be all of urban fantasy if it took her twice as long. Now, I’m feeling a bit singed myself.

Before I get into why I was disappointed, I still have to give Burned its due. The writing, the choice of words and the care put into every sentence, still sets Moning apart from the crowd. She’s a truly gifted wordsmith and this book was no different. My beef is with the plot. It wasn’t the concrete goal and conflict I’d come to expect from her. It almost seemed more of an after thought.

Another issue I had and this stems from my own personal tastes is, having so many point of views. When I read, I don’t like to get a taste of this and that, I want a main character I can feast upon. And the fact that the main point of view wasn’t Dani, like I’d been anticipating, didn’t help the matter. Yes, we do get some, but not nearly what I’d expected after coming off of Iced.

So how do I justify my four star rating? Because Moning, even at her worst, is much better than most.

Book Review & Rafflecopter: Dark Siren by Eden Ashley

To survive, their bond must be unbreakable.

When the mysterious and passionate Rhane rescues Kali from an attacker in the theater parking lot, they form an immediate, smoldering connection. But Kali doesn’t remember Rhane or anything from their past. As far as Kali knows, she’s just a seventeen-year-old kid coping with an insatiable hunger for the “spark” or energy of others, feeding on classmates to survive.

A unique artifact—one that may hold the key to returning Kali’s memories—is uncovered by the archaeology firm where she works part-time, sending Kali and Rhane on a dangerous journey that leads them to the Forbidden City, into the unforgiving Gobi, and into the ruins of Rhane’s ancient homeland. As they fight for survival, Kali begins to discover who she really is and the true power she possesses.

But Rhane still harbors a secret that could destroy Kali…unless old enemies kill her first.

I’m Eden Ashley and I was born and raised in a small, sunny town in South Carolina. However, it’s the thunderstorms that inspire my best ideas. There are few things I love more than curling up with a good book and a cup of coffee on a rainy day, (except maybe chocolate cake. I love cake.) often reading into the wee hours of morning when something really grabs me. I pretty much love anything with supernatural elements, so writing paranormal romance and fantasy romance seems to be a natural fit.

My first novel, Dark Siren, is best described as paranormal romance artfully wrapped within a plot chock-full of action, adventure, and edge-of-your-seat suspense, while the series has evolved to become a journey of redemption and second chances as two characters understand that sometimes committing evil is necessary to protect what is loved most. I took the siren from Greek mythology (and borrowed a little from mermaid lore), creating an entirely different creature, with its own mythology, and one that Publisher’s Weekly praised for its passion and complexity. This is not just another werewolf/shapeshifter romance or vampire romance. I think this is a story that both adults and teens can enjoy, full of characters to fall in love with!

Book Review:

This book had a catchy start, likable characters and and interesting storyline. But, and there always is a but, it took a long time to build up steam.

Let’s start with the positive. Kali was an interesting young woman with a unique ability to steal the life force from others. Her leading man, Rhane, was a nice compliment to her character and was tough in all the places you wanted him to be. The storyline was interesting and original.

Now to the dark side of things. It took a long to get into the story.  I started losing interest until I hit the halfway mark.  At that point things take an upturn and the pacing is much better.  In the end, you are still left with questions and it is a bit cliffy however, I’ll probably be checking out the next book in the series.
