Review: Tranquility by Grace Jelsnik

“We must find justice for the boy.”

The locals called her “The Crazy Woman of Copper Creek,” but to Caitlyn she was Gram, the woman who taught her to control the visions that had tormented her throughout her early childhood. Upon receipt of an incoherent letter from her grandmother, a letter in which only one point is made clear, a desire to find justice for an unidentified boy, Caitlyn returns to the little cabin on Copper Creek. She’s too late to help Gram, but not too late to satisfy her grandmother’s dying wish. Tormented by guilt over having turned her back on the woman who helped a little girl find her voice, Caitlyn is also determined to solve Gram’s murder.

Trevor, sheriff of Lincoln County, battles his own demons, and now he must also battle the prickly young woman who holds the solution to the unsolved disappearance of a boy last spring. In his attempts to understand the curse that made Caitlyn’s grandmother a local pariah, he learns to understand himself.

Throughout their investigation of Gram’s murder, Caitlyn and Trevor hurtle toward encounters with old enemies: for Caitlyn, a river that whispers sinister threats; for Trevor, a father with a sinister past. Only by vanquishing these enemies will they ever know tranquility.

Review:

Caitlyn was mute for the first six years of her life until she was sent to spend her summers with her grandmother who they called  “The Crazy Woman of Copper Creek,”  Although she was not crazy to Caitlyn, she was just gram. Gram who taught her to control her visions, the visions that made her mute because she simply could not handle them.  Now Caitlyn is all grown up and has not been up to that house she spent all those summers in some time. Her Gram had passed but not before sending Caitlyn an incoherent letter about a boy she must help find justice for.

Caitlyn is now determined to resolve her grams dying wish of finding justice for the boy who disappeared last spring. Can she trust the local sheriff Trevor?  As the investigation unfolds, Trevor and Caitlyn find an irritating connection with each other but with the recent murders, and the family secrets that come to light what will they do?

Jelsnik really bought out this town ‘Tranquility’ in her writing.  You really felt you were there in its surrounding’s as if you were in 3D twirling around in the heart of it as she told her story.  The story itself was very intriguing, watching it unfold left me at the edge of my seat.  The banter between Trevor and Jelsnik had me laughing.

Very well written, loved it and highly recommend

RiskofExposure4_RGB300

He is a trained professional—but nothing can prepare him for the hottest mission of his life. Assigned to protect his boss’s daughter, British former SAS operative Malone Garrett breaks the first rule of covert surveillance—don’t make contact. And especially don’t take your mark out to dinner, then agree to a rooftop quickie.  But now that Mal has Abby in his arms, he has no intention of ever letting her go.

Abby Baston told herself it was a hit and quit, a one-nighter with a hot, handsome stranger whose hands were trained to take action. Working undercover for the CIA, she can’t risk anything more. But when an international crisis ignites, Abby must make a call: trust Mal with her secret—and her                                                       heart— and partner up, or lose everything in a split second . . .

Review:

Malone Garrett a former British SAS operative is on a new assignment, watching his boss’s daughter Abby Baston.  How did he end up on the most boring job ever!  She does nothing, sleeps, works, eats, sleeps that is the gist of it until one day he saw a different side of her. A side that did not match her mundane life style.  Intrigued Malone got a little closer.  He made contact, what harm? Step on the brakes Malone, contact did not mean sleeping with the boss’s daughter the biggest “NO” ever.  What he did not expect it was an act, her mundane lifestyle. Abby was full of secrets herself. Now Malone can’t get Abby out of his head and has no intention of letting her go not to mention he can’t any way, her mission has turned into an international crisis, exactly what he is trained for.

Abby Baston scratched an itch with Malone, not that she does this all the time, Hey he’s hot with great hands. Problem bad timing and not knowing Malone was watching her when three slugs followed her into an alley. Now they are stuck with each other and Abby has to trust him and bring him into her mission.

Story was fun and action packed.  Loved the plot concept and the relationship between Malone and Garrett, especially watching the trust grow between them.  The suspense of the situations was there and very apparent but I did not necessarily feel that emotion in the writing. I was told it but did not feel it. It was a good story and will pick up another Curtis book.
